On March 29 2018, Switzerland joined the agorateka initiative with a link to its platform “SAFE”, the Swiss association for the fight against piracy. SAFE, which was founded in 1988, carries out various activities in coordination with its members to combat copyright piracy. The association supports its members in civil and criminal lawsuits and collaborates with anti-piracy organizations in Germany, Austria, France and Italy. The portal shows a selection of legal online offers (free or paid) for movies, music and television content in Switzerland.

On Thursday, 22 February 2018, the agorateka project manager René Havermans was kindly invited by the Hellenic Copyright Organization to present the agorateka portal at the ‘Conference on Copyright Infringements on the Internet: Developments in Greece & the European Union’. At the same time he took the opportunity to present the Observatory’s latest research in the area of copyright.

"agorateka roadshow meets interested stakeholders in Nicosia, Cyprus"
On 5 March, the Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism kindly hosted the agorateka roadshow. The agorateka delegation presented the project to an audience of national experts from both the private and public sectors. After Slovenia and Hungary, this is the 4th country visited by the agorateka roadshow. The aim of the roadshow is to meet stakeholders face-to-face in countries that have not yet joined agorateka, as is the case with Cyprus.

"Spanish court orders internet service providers to block two pirate websites"
The Commercial Court of Barcelona has ruled in favour of six film and television studios (Columbia, Disney, Paramount, Fox, Universal and Warner) in the lawsuit filed by them against the service providers of the Internet: Telefónica, Vodafone Ono, Orange and Xfera. The ruling orders the operators to block access to the illegal pages. According to the court, these pages damage the legitimate rights of their owners, and illegally profit from the revenues they generate through advertising.

"AGORATEKA's Annual Network Meeting - 23 January 2018"
On Tuesday, 23 January 2018, the first agorateka annual Network Meeting took place at the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s premises in Alicante.
A number of Public sector representatives and national portal operators from all the EU Member States met to evaluate last year's developments, to exchange good practices and to discuss future initiatives.
This was also an opportunity for participants to strengthen the network itself and their mutual collaboration.

"AGORATEKA Roadshow meets interested stakeholders in Budapest and Ljubljana"
In the second week of November, the Hungarian and Slovenian intellectual property offices (HIPO and SIPO) kindly hosted the AGORATEKA roadshow. An enthusiastic team travelled to central Europe to present AGORATEKA to an audience of national experts from both the private and public sectors.
Why a roadshow? Why these two countries? The aim of the roadshow is to personally meet stakeholders in countries that have not yet joined AGORATEKA. Hungary and Slovenia responded positively to our proposal, and worked closely with the AGORATEKA project team to make this event a success.

"Team showcases AGORATEKA to European Parliament Officials"
On 10 October, an EUIPO team travelled to Brussels to introduce AGORATEKA (The European Online Content Portal) to the European Parliament. This European portal increases the transparency of legal offers for digital content (music, film/TV, e-books, video games, sports events) by helping consumers find legal content in participating European countries.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness about the portal and motivate more countries to join.

"Finland joins agorateka through the portal Lailliset Palvelut"
On October 6 2017, Finland joined the agorateka initiative with a link to its platform “Lailliset Palvelut”.The website was founded by a number of organizations from the cultural and media sectors. The project has been supported by the Ministry of Culture and Eduction as well as the Finnish Music Foundation (previously known as Finnish Performing Music Promtion Centre). The site is currently operated by the Finnish Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Centre.
